ABOUT GolDEN flowers

Flower display outside a shop with multiple bouquets in white vases, placed against a brick wall. The sign on the door reads "Golden Flowers."

With a background in Agriculture, our owner Brittany initially set out to start a flower farm and in our early days she learned that most all successful flower farms do one thing: sell it before you grow it, and it was then when Golden Flowers was born.

Step one was to learn the ins and outs of high end design, so off to Los Angeles, California and Paris, France our team went, to receive top training in floral design. Step two was to open our brick and mortar studio in the heart of downtown Nevada City, CA and get to work. It was then we mastered flowers—which flowers have a long vase life, an exaggerated look, are perfect for a bouquet, are in high demand etc. It was then we also learned the seasonality of the floral business and felt were ready to start farming

About the farm

Red wooden barn with double doors and an exterior lamp on a sunny day.

Our farm is a new endeavor for us and we are appreciating the process of learning the rhythms of our location, seasons and crops. We rent space at an incredible farm equipped with goats, a barn, two greenhouse and healthy soil. We grow a portion of what we use for design and are excited to continue to expand our production to provide to other florists and wholesale floral operations. This season we are growing peonies, ranunculus, anemones, narcissus, specialty tulips, dahlias, celosia, amaranth, sweet peas, zinnias and cosmos

us

We are family owned and operated and consider our employees family too. Brittany and Josh met in 2015, he was selling a chair on Craigslist and she was buying one. She struck a deal for him to deliver the chair for a bottle of wine, and upon delivery it was love at first sight. We were engaged in 2019 on the Spanish Coast, married in Tahoe after waiting out covid restrictions, and have a beautiful son who is at the center of our orbit. Our son entering this world prompted our relocation to the Sierra Nevadas, as we wanted to give him the luxury of growing up in a small town with a strong sense of community, surrounded by the beauty of nature

Brittany operates the design studio and farm full time and holds a master’s degree in agricultural science. Prior to operating Golden and The Farm, Brittany had a corporate career for over ten years as an agronomist who integrated sustainable agricultural products and production techniques into mainstream, big Ag throughout the world in Spain, Mexico, New Zealand and across the US. In that time she was always drawn to the thousands of different varieties and cultivars of fruits in veggies that come in different shapes, sizes and colors. Her love for agriculture shows in the way she farms and the flowers she chooses to grow and utilize for design

Our business runs with the support of our amazing group of designers who are artists in their own right, and Brittany’s mom who is always there for us

In our free time we can be found enjoying the gift that is life with each other, camping, visiting family in Monterey and Montana, playing in rivers and lakes and catching a sunset
